What is World Reverse Cancer Day? #reverseforcancer

World Reverse Cancer Day. I seriously just did a Google search about it to write this post because I’ve heard about it way too many times in the past 2 weeks! I first saw it on Jinnyboy’s Instagram when he posted a #reverseforcancer video. Then I realized a couple other social media influencers released their own #reverseforcancer videos too. I then received an email at work, learning that this initiative is a brainchild of my colleagues for Cancer Research Malaysia! A couple of hours ago, I received an email from Nuffnang about #reverseforcancer.

School Holiday Coleman Family Glamping near KL Mar 2018

I used to go camping when I was still in school and college. I spent most of my time on the internet looking for new places to explore and on sites like campingfunzone.com, from which I have learnt a lot about camping and its essentials. We’d go to a camping site, set up a tiny tent, squeeze 4 persons and our bags, and wake up with backache. I’ve never really missed camping since because why should I? Well, I may after my first glamping experience with Own The Weekend team and Coleman.

For those who are not familiar, here’s the definition of glamping on Google: “a form of camping involving accommodation and facilities more luxurious than those associated with traditional camping”.

Doodling for Therapy to Cope with Cancer (and Life, Really)

Have you tried meditating before? I did when I learned qi gong. Time slowed down 1000x when I tried. Then a friend bought me a coloring book for me to kill time during chemo. It took my mind off but I didn’t do much of it because it’s tiring to use colour pencils. I tried doodling, courtesy of National Cancer Society Malaysia and Kanvas Space. Why KL-ites Should Do Staycation in KL

Staycation. I never felt relatable to this word until RK made it my birthday present in 2016 when I was going through chemotherapy. That year, we checked in to a “studio apartment” at Oasia Suites KL right after going to the hospital to remove my chemotherapy drug and needle. I was sleeping most of the time (like how I usually do after chemo) and RK was working a lot because of work crisis. Staycation was definitely the perfect holiday for both of us that time! Bukit Kembara Hiking Dec 2017

Interestingly, the first time I heard about hiking at Bukit Kembara was from a petition to save the Bukit Kembara hiking trail. In Aug and Oct 2017, fences were built to block off access to the trail. You can read the news here and here. I’m not familiar with the fencing of the place so let me just tell you about my hiking experience there in Dec 2017.

It was a weekday public holiday and my friend wanted to hike Bukit Kembara after seeing another friend hike there. I jumped on the opportunity to explore because let’s be honest, it’s not very motivating to drive from Klang to Ampang (~50km) for a hike early in the morning by myself.

Trekking Cat Cat Village, Sapa in Winter (Jan 2018) – Part 2

Are you ready for Part 2 after the lengthy Part 1 about our 7-hour hike through 3 villages in Winter? I was so ready to rent the boots again but our tour guide told us it was not necessary for Day 2 of trekking. Turned out that our second trek was mostly to visit Cat Cat Village, which is a tourism village that charges an entrance fee.

I’m one of those tourists who like to visit tourist attractions (as long as it’s not too commercialized aka $$$ everywhere) because they tend to be tourist-friendly; convenient to walk and see, with local food that may not be too local (aka suit my tourist palate). Spoiler: Cat Cat Village is my kind of tourist spot.

CT Scan Jan 2018 – Doctor Words I Hate and Love Hearing

Words. Are powerful. Even more powerful in the circumstances I faced in the past week are words from doctors.

So I went for my first CT scan in two years (since cancer diagnosis and treatment). And even though the result was ready almost immediately after the scan, I could only get it from my oncologist during my appointment scheduled about a month after.

Trekking Sapa, Vietnam in Winter (Jan 2018) – Part 1

Sapa. Honestly, I’ve never heard of the place until my friends suggested to travel there so I really don’t know much about the place. But many of my other friends seem to know and want to visit Sapa so I thought it’d be good to have one post about my 2-day trekking at Sapa. Especially because there’s not much info about trekking Sapa in winter on blogs.

Best of Hanoi, Vietnam Trip Jan 2018

Vietnam again! The last time I flew, I visited Ho Chi Minh City in the south of Vietnam. This round, I visited Hanoi, Sapa and Halong Bay in the north of Vietnam. Definitely thinking about a trip to Central Vietnam but let’s list the best of my Hanoi trip first.

DIY Group Child Sponsorship with World Vision

Sponsoring a child with World Vision has always been my personal aspiration.

From the time I received my first paycheck, I was always thinking about when I would feel financially stable and comfortable to commit to a lifetime of child sponsorship. I finally did it as my 25th birthday present to myself. I may have accomplished it earlier if I knew it can also be a group sponsorship, where multiple persons sponsor 1 child.

To clarify, World Vision does not have a group child sponsorship program. But this is being practised by groups of people who want to sponsor collectively.

Case Study #1 – 12 sponsors for 1 child
