5th Quarterly Follow Up Consultation with Oncologist

The Big-C pretty much never left my mind since 20 Jan 2016. But this past 2 weeks, it was especially hard to take it off my mind because…

  1. I went for my 5th quarterly follow up since completing cancer treatment. That’s exactly 1 year since I started my post-treatment follow up and aspirin drug study too.
  2. My cancer story was published on Humans of Kuala Lumpur. As a result, strangers reached out to me for support. The story was long overdue so I had a throwback moment when it came out too.
  3. I attended a talk about genetics and cancer, where Mei Sze shared her cancer story. I exchanged stories with a few people, whose stories I want to remember.

Best of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam Trip Oct 2017

RK and I travelled a lot during the first half of the year. Most of which we planned the end of last year after I completed all my cancer treatments. So when our travel marathon ended, it felt a little weird that there’s no more holiday to look forward to for the rest of the year.

We didn’t want to commit to another holiday because we didn’t have any wishlist. But we didn’t want to not travel too. Thus we decided we’d go for a last minute trip at the end of the year.

Our last minute 3D3N in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam in mid-October became that trip. Continue reading Best of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam Trip Oct 2017

Bukit Dinding Hiking Oct 2017

I created a list of easy hiking trails in Klang Valley that I wanted to go at the beginning of the year. Bukit Dinding hiking trail was the only unchecked one on the list until one fine Sunday!

According to online sources, Bukit Dinding is one of the tallest hills in Kuala Lumpur. I don’t know how true it is but being one of the tallest doesn’t seem to earn it any popularity. Continue reading Bukit Dinding Hiking Oct 2017

1 Year After Completing Cancer Treatment – First Anniversary Reflections

Milestone posts prove to be hard to write. I’ve never written any during my first anniversary of cancer diagnosis, my first anniversary of completing surgery, my first anniversary of starting chemotherapy and I’m a week after my first anniversary of completing cancer treatment.

It’s hard to write because these milestones are significant in its own way. They each represent a very distinctive life-changing event — super emotional ones in vastly different ways.

Here’s what each of them meant to me… Continue reading 1 Year After Completing Cancer Treatment – First Anniversary Reflections

My First Relay for Life Malaysia

I wondered why Relay for Life has to start at 6pm until 10am the next day. I think I understood over the weekend as I joined my first Relay for Life Malaysia as a young cancer survivor, a week before my 1st year anniversary since completing cancer treatment…

The anticipation for Relay for Life started to build up about 3 weeks before the event as 4 other young cancer survivors and myself gathered for our dance practice. We volunteered to represent the young cancer survivors for a dance performance. Continue reading My First Relay for Life Malaysia

Pros and Cons of Taking the Train to Work

It has been more than 4 months since I commute by train to work. To be specific, I take KTM from Klang to Subang Jaya, then swap to LRT at Subang Jaya to Asia Jaya. I leave my car at KTM station in Klang and walk to my office from Asia Jaya station. What are the pros and cons of taking the train to work? Continue reading Pros and Cons of Taking the Train to Work

Best of Color Run Malaysia

A man walked into the restaurant where I was having breakfast this morning. He looked sunburned, with odd red pathes on his face and arms. Odd. I told myself. On a second glance, noticed that his hair covered in colorful powder. Ah. It’s the Color Run!

In 2014 when Color Run first came to Malaysia, I attended the event too, thanks to free tickets won from CIMB. I don’t join marathons. I don’t run. So if not for the free tickets and hype about being the happiest run on planet filled with color, I wouldn’t have bothered. 3 years later, Color Run remains the only fun run I’ve ever joined to date. Breaking and Fixing IKEA Bed Frame

Have you seen the 10 years product quality guarantee claim and demonstration when you visit an IKEA store? Some products even have 25 years guarantee. That’s impressive and leaves an impression right? RK’s brain innocently registered that all IKEA big items come with guarantee and (mis)educated me too. This led us to think that we’d get a new bed frame when he broke it today. Continue reading Breaking and Fixing IKEA Bed Frame
